Brazilian People

(No,not brazilians, but the people you meet in Brazil!)

I’m not really sure if I qualify as any type of expert on this situation, but I do know the people I have met in Brazil and they are a diverse lot to say the least.

For the past while, I have been helping “gringos” come to Fortaleza.  If YOU would like to visit, click here.

I think the first real “gringo” I thought of when someone mentioned Brazil to me five years ago, would have been the last of the "Great Train Robbers”, Ronald Biggs.  I recall that at the time,  he had fled to Rio and started his own restaurant there before going back to face justice years later.

One can hear stories even today of perhaps finding a German war criminal who managed to avoid capture after the Second World War and ending up in the furthest southern reaches of Brazil, near the borders of Paraguay and Argentina.

In any event, the people I have met in Fortaleza who came here to live, becoming expatriots, are a very interesting lot.

I won’t use names, they’re not necessary.

They range from a man who gave up a thriving real estate business in the US to have a life ( he had passed retirement age anyway) in the sun...he had earned it.  Now he has a new family...as well as a new life.

Then there’s the fellow thought he was dying...he had actually been told that.

He talked to a friend who had already moved here.  The friend told him,  “get on a plane...now!”

That was several years ago!  He’s still kicking!

There’s a Canadian...well he’s almost Brazilian...been here so long...he goes back to Canada, I understand, every three years or so, but always ends up back here.  He’s into his early 70’s now.

But the really interesting ones are those, like me, who have met wonderful Brazilian women, formed relationships and families and want to become part of Brazil.

When you don’t speak the language, it’s not easy, but the result is well worth the effort, in my humble opinion. If YOU don’t speak the language but still want to visit, click here for help fulfilling that dream.
